Every two years Members of the International Coalition of Art Deco Societies (ICADS) convene at the ICADS Biennial World Congress on Art Deco® in a city selected for its noteworthy Art Deco architecture. Each Congress brings together top scholars, global leaders and Deco enthusiasts for a week of lectures, tours, meetings with local governmental and cultural officials, and social activities in historic Deco settings.

CONTINUING A RICH HISTORY OF PRESERVATION

The World Congress plays a vital role in generating global attention to Art Deco architecture and design and often becomes a clarion call for identifying and protecting endangered Art Deco. The 2013 World Congress in Havana revealed that a large number of the city’s 1930’s Deco treasures were in imminent danger of collapse after decades of neglect, which led to a new Havana preservation effort.

The 2019 World Congress in Argentina offered tours of rural communities to view monumental Art Deco works by Francisco Salamone, architect of more than sixty 1930’s municipal buildings in the Pampas built in the Art Deco style. Those visits became the catalyst for rediscovery, restoration and renewed global interest in the important contributions of Salamone to Art Deco architecture of the period.

2025 PARIS WORLD CONGRESS ON ART DECO®

We are delighted to inform you that details of the Paris World Congress on Art Deco® taking place in October 2025 are now live on the website. You can learn more about details including dates, costs, preliminary schedules, and access to pre-register here: https://www.paris-artdeco.org/.

PLEASE NOTE: As with all previous World Congresses, registration is handled by the host city society. Accordingly, all registrations and questions will go through the Paris Art Deco Society, so please contact them for any further information or questions you may have.

As you are likely aware, our umbrella organization the International Coalition of Art Deco Societies (ICADS) and Paris anticipate great interest in this Congress; however, there are limitations on the number of slots available for a variety of logistical reasons beyond their control. There are limited spots available for the Pre- and Post-Congresses in Reims and Brussels respectively as well. Accordingly, ICADS and the Paris Art Deco Society have developed a way to manage participation from member societies. Much thought has been given to ensure that seats are distributed fairly to all societies interested in attending. Therefore, the total number of spaces allocated to each society is based on its membership numbers, and priority will be given to active and engaged members serving their societies.

Those interested in attending must fill out the Pre-Registration form on the Paris Website and are encouraged to do so quickly.

The 2025 World Congress on Art Deco® will celebrate the centennial of the 1925 Exposition Internationale Des Arts Decoratifs et Industrials Moderne, the event that led to the spread of the Art Deco style around the world. Click here to see a recent presentation exploring the concept of the 17th World Congress on Art Deco® which will include programming in Paris, Reims, Saint Quentin, and Brussels. The 2027 World Congress is proposed to be hosted in Chicago, USA by the Chicago Art Deco Society.
